 Description   

When you define a dependency in an invalid scope you get;

A problem occurred evaluating root project 'inconsequential'.
Cause: No signature of method: org.gradle.api.internal.artifacts.dsl.dependencies.DefaultDependencyHandler.optional() is applicable for argument types: (java.lang.String) values: [org.slf4j:slf4j-simple:1.5.8]

This isn't a great error message and it would be better something like:

"Dependency configuration [optional] not found. Please define the dependency configuration or use one of the available configurations [compile, testCompile etc.]"
