I am currently working on eclipse-wtp plugin and saw your issue but unfortunately do not really understand the problem. The archiveName is not at all used with IDE plugins, neither on version 1.8 nor 2.1.

But maybe I don't understand your problem very well, can you build an easy self-contained reproducer or try to explain it more verbose?

As announced on the Gradle blog we are planning to completely migrate issues from JIRA to GitHub.
