[GRADLE-2538] Able to compile Groovy BEFORE Java Created: 27/Oct/12 Updated: 10/Feb/17 Resolved: 10/Feb/17
How can I tell Gradle to compile my project's Groovy (Scala, Clojure, <other JVM langs) BEFORE Java?
Right now I have to put my Java files into my Groovy source folder. Sorry, but this is ridiculous.

You can use this as a workaround:

True that workaround may work.
Still I would like to compile Groovy before Java. In your workaround, I compile both Groovy and Java with groovyc and this is not what I want. Btw, what's the point of having then a folder named 'src/main/java' anyway?
What I really would like to know is how to tell Gradle with a few lines of how to switch dependencies: java class files depend on groovy class files.
If this is a problem for Gradle, then I'm running out of arguments why Gradle is better than Maven or even Ant (with Ivy).
