...and using maxParallelForks + forkEvery causes the html report to show only a single fork's output.

The fact that the HTML report doesn't work with maxParallelForks/forkEvery is a known issue. I have a local fix (based on Gradle's test report) which I will try to get into 1.2.

Just upgraded to Gradle 1.3, this still does not appear to work ?

We do pass this information to the TestNG executer. @Robert, what are the symptoms?
